Le classifiche di fine anno arrivano sempre con qualche settimana di anticipo. C'è chi, addirittura non aspetta neanche dicembre, convinto, forse, che il Natale non porti altro che compilation di cover dei grandi standard. Poi, però, può capitare che improvvisamente e senza alcun preavviso esca un album che spiazza tutti e che resta fuori, paradossalmente, da tutte le classifiche di fine anno, che ne risultano falsate. certo, si parla di classifiche, niente di che. Di consigli finali, mezzi per recuperare qualche ascolto che ci siamo persi durante l'anno. Però, anche quest'anno si è ripetuto quello che in parte successe lo scorso anno, quando un artista top come Beyoncé pubblicò all'improvviso, senza che nessuno se l'aspettasse, il suo album omonimo. Era metà dicembre e a oggi quello resta uno degli album più venduti del 2013 e anche del 2014, con grossa attenzione e apprezzamento da parte della critica.

Quest'anno pare essersi ripetuto il fattaccio. A 14 anni dal suo ultimo album (Voodoo era del 2000) è tornato D'Angelo con l'album "Black Messiah" pubblicato a nome D'Angelo and The Vanguard e conquista la critica di tutto il mondo. Recensioni entusiastiche sui maggiori giornali e siti specializzati e una media voto strepitosa (9.2) ma nessuna inclusione nelle classifiche.
