Chi è Dotan, l’olandese che con Numb sta conquistando le radio italiane

Si chiama Dotan, è olandese di origini israeliane, vive negli Usa e ha una canzone tra le cinque più trasmesse dalle radio italiane. Se il suo nome forse non dirà ancora molto, la sua canzone "Numb" è quinta nella classifica EarOne delle più trasmesse dalle radio nazionali e prima in quella riservata alle etichette indipendenti. La canzone ha totalizzato 12 milioni di stream su Spotify ed è nella top 50 della classifica Viral di Spotify, anche se non sfonda ancora nella Global 50 e in quella FIMI. Nonostante ciò, fa impressione vedere quanto le radio italiane abbiamo apprezzato il brano del polistrumentista olandese.

Il significato di Numb

In patria è molto conosciuto, ed è arrivato in testa alle classifiche di vendita con l'album "7 Layers" del 2014, un lavoro registrato interamente nel suo salone di casa, come si legge nella nota stampa che accompagna la notizia di questa top 5 italiana. Presentando la canzone il cantante aveva spiegato di aver attraversato un periodo molto complesso da cui, però, ne era uscito cresciuto, sia personalmente che musicalmente: "È una canzone che parla di un tempo in cui non sentivo nulla e non sapevo più come sentirmi, ma volevo fortemente tornare indietro da me stesso. È un suono leggermente diverso e di cui sono contento".

Una lotta contro l'insensibilità

La canzone è piaciuta molto, anche nel nostro Paese, dove la sta promuovendo la squadra che è alle spalle di LP, altra artista che in Italia ha trovato un successo enorme. La canzone, infatti, è pubblicata dalla X-Energy, è stata scritta a Los Angeles con Neil Ormandy e Tim Randolph (Imagine Dragons), prodotto da Martin Wiklund e mixato dal vincitore del Grammy John Hanes (Ariana Grande, Lorde, Beck). Una canzone che è un grido di dolore, ma anche piena di speranza: "I've been lost inside a million eyes They don’t see me, they don't know what it's like Trading colours into black and white No one’s reading all the words that I write" canta, ma anche "Now I'm fighting with my hands up, hands up". Una lotta contro il sentimento di insensibilità che dà il titolo alla canzone.
